Learn Some of the Great American Dances with Our Memorial Swing Dance Lessons
The swing dances of the jazz era are a big part of our American cultural history, and they continue to remain popular with people of all ages. Some styles of swing dances may look daunting, but students of all a range of ages and physical abilities have learned them in our Arthur Murray swing dance classes in Memorial TX. It’s just a matter of learning the individual elements and then putting them together.
The History of Swing Dancing
Swing dancing became popular in the 1920s. The Lindy Hop and the Jitterbug were some of the first styles of swing. Our swing dance students learn those as well as both East Coast and West Coast Swing and more, including:
- Carolina Shag
Foxtrot Dance Classes in Memorial TX
The foxtrot has been around even longer than swing dancing. It’s named for Vaudeville actor Harry Fox. It’s considered one of the biggest developments in ballroom dancing and remains a staple of ballroom dance classes today.
The foxtrot is just one of the ballroom dances that our certified Arthur Murray choreographers teach. You’ll also learn these dances and others:
- Waltz (including Viennese)
- Tango (including Argentine)
If you don’t have a partner, it’s no problem! Lots of our students come in by themselves. There’s always a partner for you, and our classes are a great way to make new friends.
